Another celebrity assault case exposes the pattern of violence plaguing America’s nightlife scene, as R&B singer Trey Songz faces multiple charges for allegedly punching a Times Square club employee and destroying property worth $1,500.
Story Snapshot
- Trey Songz arrested on six criminal charges including assault and property destruction at two Manhattan venues
- Singer allegedly punched nightclub worker in face during 4:25 a.m. closing time confrontation

- Court granted order of protection for victim; case continues pattern of violence allegations against artist
Multiple Criminal Charges Filed Against R&B Artist
Manhattan prosecutors charged Trey Songz with six criminal counts following incidents at Dramma Night Club in Times Square and Mira restaurant. The charges include two counts of third-degree assault for intent to cause physical injury, one count of reckless assault, aggravated harassment, standard harassment, and second-degree criminal mischief. Songz pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on his own recognizance with court-imposed conditions including an order of protection for the nightclub employee.

Violence Erupts During Club Closing Procedures
The primary incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. when Dramma Night Club staff informed Songz and his party that the venue was closing. Prosecutors allege the singer became “needlessly irate” and punched a club employee in the face with a closed fist, causing swelling and substantial pain. The unprovoked attack on a service worker performing routine duties demonstrates the vulnerability of nightlife employees to celebrity entitlement and aggression.
Property Destruction at Second Manhattan Venue
During the same night, Songz allegedly caused approximately $1,500 in property damage at Mira, a Manhattan restaurant and hookah lounge. The destruction included hookahs, DJ equipment, and furniture, representing a separate criminal matter of second-degree criminal mischief. Police computer checks after the Mira incident revealed Songz was also wanted for the earlier Dramma assault, linking both cases to a single night of alleged criminal behavior.
Defense Claims Targeting and Provocation
Defense attorney Mitchell Schuster argued that Songz was “confronted by individuals who instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him.” The defense claims security intervened during the ensuing confusion and that Songz, as a public figure, is being targeted for “headlines or financial gain.” However, this defense strategy fails to address the pattern of similar allegations involving nightclub violence and the objective evidence of employee injury and property damage.
The case represents another entry in Songz’s extensive legal troubles, including prior arrests at a Manhattan bowling alley, settlement of multimillion-dollar sexual assault lawsuits, and allegations of violence against club employees and patrons. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 18, 2026, where prosecutors will present evidence supporting the assault and property destruction charges.
