Chip Roy Calls For GOP Accountability To Advance Trump’s Policies

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has raised concerns about potential opposition within the Republican Party to President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. Speaking to Todd Starnes, Roy warned that some lawmakers may resist Trump’s policies while publicly claiming to support them.

Roy criticized what he called early excuses from GOP lawmakers. “You’re already hearing things like, ‘We don’t have 60 votes in the Senate,’” Roy said. He argued that such statements reflect a reluctance to embrace the disruptive changes needed to implement Trump’s vision.

Roy also criticized the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, arguing that its $200 billion cost could hasten the insolvency of the Social Security program. “This is the kind of decision-making that keeps us stuck in the same broken system,” he said.

Roy expressed support for a faction of Republicans committed to Trump’s policies but emphasized the need for accountability within the party. “Some people in this conference need to understand that business as usual isn’t going to cut it,” he said.

Additionally, Roy criticized federal funding for NPR, describing it as a misuse of taxpayer dollars. He advocated for eliminating such funding as part of broader efforts to reform government spending and reduce federal overreach.

With Trump set to take office, Roy’s comments reflect ongoing frustrations within the GOP and the challenges of rallying the party behind an ambitious and transformative agenda.
