A Michigan Catholic bishop laid his cards on the table recently when he called out President Joe Biden for his faux Catholicism. Robert Gruss of the Diocese of Saginaw blasted the Democrat for failing to understand the basic tenets of his professed faith.
Gruss said, “I don’t have any anger towards the president. I feel sorry for him. I’m not angry at him. He’s just stupid. It’s not stupid in the derogatory way; it’s stupidity in the sense of he doesn’t understand the Catholic faith.”
Bishop Gruss has since apologized for his choice of phrasing and said his words were taken out of context.
The message, however, remained clear. Biden claims to be Catholic while governing with progressive ideology that mocks the very faith he gives lip service to.
His stances on such controversial issues as abortion, gender ideology and others are in clear contrast to the teachings of the Scriptures and the Vatican. But when it is convenient, Biden has no qualms over trotting out his alleged beliefs.

Bishop Gruss warned his congregation about anger directed at the Democrat. “If you’re harboring bad, negative, resentful feelings toward our president, you’re not free. Otherwise, you’re letting him control you and your thoughts and your words and your actions.”
Gruss’s contrition noted that he was discussing forgiveness and unforgiveness. “I was speaking in the context of forgiving the president and any people in government who offend us by their words and actions.”
The bishop added, “I used the word ‘stupid’ in reference to President Biden, recognizing that it was poor judgment in my words. It was not meant to be disparaging, and I apologize. I will continue to pray for the president and all political leaders.”
Apology notwithstanding, Gruss’s words reflected a long-simmering feud between the Catholic Church and the second American president to profess their faith.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2021 voted to proceed with efforts to deny Communion to Biden over his continued support for abortion.
Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City declared, “This is a Catholic president that’s doing the most aggressive thing we’ve ever seen in terms of this attack on life when it is the most innocent.”
