CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins has come under fire after allegedly promoting the legal defense fund for Luigi Mangione, the man charged with assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Collins deleted the post from X following intense criticism, but screenshots of her message have continued circulating online.
Mangione was arrested after a nationwide search and is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder in furtherance of an act of terrorism. Surveillance footage reportedly captured him gunning down Thompson in what authorities believe was a politically motivated attack. Police later uncovered writings attributed to Mangione, in which he railed against the healthcare industry and corporations.
We can now also dispense with the notion that Kaitlan Collins is a serious journalist speaking truth to power (only when an R is in office).

The case has taken a disturbing turn as leftist activists and journalists have attempted to defend or justify Mangione’s actions. Some have framed him as a hero for targeting an insurance executive, while others have helped raise money for his legal fund.
Kaitlan Collins is in big trouble for promoting Luigi Mangione’s defense fund.
She eventually deleted the post, but only after she was lambasted for helping to support the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO k*ller.@kaitlancollins should take President Trump’s advice and be quiet. pic.twitter.com/2geXos1i3A

Collins’ deleted post linked to a website set up by Mangione’s attorneys, but she did not disclose that one of his legal representatives has ties to CNN. Critics immediately questioned why a high-profile journalist would boost financial support for a man accused of premeditated murder.
NEW: CNN’s Kaitlan Collins claims she wasn’t “promoting” Luigi Mangione’s fundraising link, says she was just sharing it because it was “newsworthy.”
The comment comes as many are calling for Collins to lose her press credentials.

Mangione’s defense fund has already raised close to $500,000, as supporters rally behind his cause. Meanwhile, conservatives have pointed to the media’s silence on the disturbing glorification of an accused assassin, arguing that CNN and other outlets would cover the story differently if the suspect’s motives aligned with the right.
Collins: People are reaching out to you and offering to help pay for his legal bills
Mangione’s Attorney: That's correct.
Collins: Would you accept those offers?
Mangione’s Attorney: I probably wouldn’t

Collins has not responded to questions about her post, and CNN has yet to address the controversy. Meanwhile, Mangione remains in custody as his legal team prepares for trial.
