U.S. Navy SEAL Team 6 has been training for over a year to prepare for a possible conflict with China over Taiwan, according to a recent report. The elite unit is focusing on missions that could be crucial if China decides to act on its long-standing threats to forcibly reunify Taiwan with the mainland.
China has been increasing its military presence in the South China Sea, creating artificial islands armed with missile launchers capable of striking U.S. warships. This development, coupled with China’s frequent harassment of American allies in the region, has raised concerns about a potential invasion of Taiwan.
The U.S. military is responding by preparing for various scenarios. SEAL Team 6, based in Dam Neck, Virginia, is at the forefront of this effort. Their specialized training could prove essential if American forces find themselves defending Taiwan from a Chinese assault.
The U.S. has also reactivated two key airstrips in the Pacific, originally built during World War II, to enhance its strategic capabilities in the region. These bases could provide critical support in the event of conflict.
While China has been threatening Taiwan for years, the situation has grown more volatile, and the U.S. military is preparing for the possibility of involving itself in a war with the Eastern nuclear power.
