Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, a former Vatican ambassador to the United States, is urging American Catholics to vote for President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. In a passionate open letter, Vigano described Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris, as “an infernal monster who obeys Satan” and warned that supporting her would have dire consequences for both the nation and the Catholic faith.
Vigano, who served as Apostolic Nuncio from 2011 to 2016, is known for his strong conservative views and outspoken criticism of the Vatican’s handling of various scandals. His recent letter frames the election as a battle between good and evil, insisting that Catholics have a moral obligation to support Trump. He asserted that failing to vote, or voting for Harris, would amount to supporting forces that aim to dismantle religious freedom and democracy.
A Pew Research survey shows that the Catholic vote is closely divided, with 52% supporting Trump and 47% backing Harris. Vigano urged Catholics to unify and vote for Trump, whom he described as the only candidate capable of opposing what he called a “globalist coup” that threatens the country’s sovereignty and values.
Vigano claimed that Harris’s policies would lead to moral and social chaos, destroying the nation’s traditional Christian foundations. He emphasized that Trump represents the last line of defense against such an outcome, urging Catholics to act decisively to protect their faith and future generations.
Cardinal Raymond Burke has also called on Catholics to engage in prayer and fasting before the election, advising the faithful to evaluate each candidate’s policies to find the one most aligned with Catholic values and the common good.
Father Chad Ripperger provided further spiritual support, composing a prayer for the election that asks for divine guidance and protection over America’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of seeking God’s intervention during this critical moment.
