Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated concerts in Vienna have been canceled following credible threats of a terrorist attack. The cancellations, which affect three shows at Ernst Happel Stadium, were announced after Austrian authorities arrested two individuals suspected of plotting the attacks.
Concert promoter Barracuda Music confirmed the cancellations on social media, stating: “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”
The suspects, one of whom is a 19-year-old with alleged ISIS connections, were apprehended in Ternitz and Vienna. Public Security Director Franz Ruf revealed that the suspects had engaged in “preparatory actions” for a potential attack. The younger suspect had reportedly sworn allegiance to ISIS, while the other suspect had been radicalized online.
Authorities recovered toxic chemical materials from one of the suspects’ residences, which are now being analyzed. Ruf confirmed that the suspects had targeted Taylor Swift’s concerts as potential sites for their planned attacks.
In response to the threat, security measures at Ernst Happel Stadium have been significantly tightened, with enhanced entry checks and other safety protocols implemented. Despite these precautions, the decision to cancel the concerts was made to ensure the safety of fans and staff.
Taylor Swift was slated to perform in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Fans who bought tickets are advised to follow official updates for information on refunds and potential rescheduling.
The cancellation of these concerts highlights the persistent threat of terrorism and the necessity of stringent security measures at public events. As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on preventing further threats and ensuring public safety.
