Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) recently shared a concerning account about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness during an interview with Tucker Carlson. Lee described how Biden’s cognitive decline has been downplayed by Democrats and the mainstream media, revealing a personal experience that solidified his belief in Biden’s impairment.
Appearing on “The Tucker Carlson Show,” Lee recounted an incident involving his wife, Sharon, who attended a dinner at the White House. During the event, she observed Biden appearing confused and failing to recognize her despite their previous interactions. Lee explained, “She said, there was no secret service with him, no staff with him, he just kind of walked in… He asked her, ‘Do you work in the east wing?’ And she said, ‘No, no, Mr. President, I’m Sharon. Sharon Lee, Senator Mike Lee’s wife.’”
This interaction, combined with other observations, led Lee to draw parallels between Biden’s behavior and symptoms he recognized from his late mother-in-law’s battle with Alzheimer’s. He noted, “I saw that same gait and posture in President Biden during his first term in office.”
Lee emphasized that Biden has been kept away from both the public and unfriendly press, as well as members of Congress. “With Biden, it hardly happens at all, like they shielded him from us,” Lee said, comparing Biden’s limited interactions with lawmakers to the more engaged presidencies of Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
During the interview, Carlson highlighted concerns about Biden’s ability to serve another term, referencing calls for him to step down. Lee’s account further fuels these concerns, especially given Biden’s visible struggles during public appearances and debates.
Despite these observations, the White House has consistently dismissed concerns about Biden’s mental fitness. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has labeled circulating videos as “cheap fakes” orchestrated by Republicans.
Polls indicate growing public concern about Biden’s mental health. An August 2022 Issues & Insights/TIPP poll showed that 59% of adults were “very concerned” about Biden’s mental health, with an additional 36% being “somewhat concerned.” Following a debate performance where Biden struggled to finish his statements, a CBS/YouGov poll found that 72% of Americans doubted his cognitive and mental ability to serve in office.
As the 2024 election approaches, questions about Biden’s mental fitness continue to be a contentious issue, with Republicans like Lee pushing for greater transparency and accountability.
