Planet Fitness Gender Policy Sparks Boycott, Falling Stock Price

Amid a corporate trend of embracing far-left social activism, many conservatives have pushed back with boycotts that have cost targeted companies millions of dollars or more in lost revenue.

Planet Fitness has seen an increased call for boycotts and membership cancellations this week following news that the gym’s policy allows for biological males who identify as female to use the women’s locker room.

The latest controversy stemmed from a location in Alaska, where a woman’s membership was reportedly revoked after she raised concerns about a male she spotted shaving in the female-only area. According to a Planet Fitness spokesperson, the woman, identified as Patricia Silva, violated the company’s “judgment-free” policy by calling attention to the situation.

“I just came out of Planet Fitness,” Silva said in a social media post about the incident. “There is a man shaving in the women’s bathroom. I love him in Christ. He is a spiritual being having a human experience. He doesn’t like his gender so he wants to be a woman, but I’m not comfortable with him shaving in my bathroom. I just thought I’d say it out loud.”

She went on to assert that there was also a preteen girl in the locker room at the time.
“Planet Fitness is defending the man in the women’s locker room … rather than the child in the corner with a towel wrapped around her,” Silva continued.

This was not the first time the gym has been in the news for a male’s alleged behavior inside of a female locker room. According to reports, a man exposed himself to a showering 15-year-old girl last year and was subsequently arrested, although it was unclear whether he had attempted to present himself as a self-identified female prior to entering the gender-segregated area.

The company experienced a dip in its stock value in the aftermath of mounting calls for a boycott.

Planet Fitness doubled down on its decision to allow biological males into women’s facilities at its gyms, issuing a statement touting its commitment to create “an inclusive environment.”

Spokesperson McCall Gosselin added: “Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity.”
