Miller Warns Sanctuary Leaders Of Serious Legal Consequences Over Policies

Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, has sent a direct message to sanctuary jurisdiction leaders, warning them of the legal risks associated with their immigration policies. The letter, sent by Miller’s legal organization America First Legal (AFL), was addressed to 249 sanctuary officials.

Miller emphasized in the letter that federal law mandates the removal of illegal immigrants and criminalizes efforts to obstruct federal immigration enforcement. He warned that sanctuary jurisdictions are in direct violation of these laws and that officials could face serious legal consequences if they continue to enforce such policies.

The letter highlighted the risks of criminal liability under federal conspiracy laws for officials involved in sanctuary policies. It also warned of financial consequences, with the possibility of lawsuits under the RICO Act for crimes committed by sanctuary-protected individuals.

Miller’s legal team stressed that sanctuary jurisdictions may face both criminal and civil consequences, and urged officials to comply with federal law. The letter closed with a quote from former President Theodore Roosevelt, reminding officials that no one is above the law.

California officials, including Attorney General Rob Bonta, rejected the warning, arguing that the state’s sanctuary laws, such as Senate Bill 54, continue to provide legal protection to sanctuary jurisdictions despite federal enforcement actions.
