Man Punches Boston McDonald’s Employee For Touching Drink Lid

In a bizarre development, it was recently reported that a McDonald’s employee in Boston, Massachusetts, was punched several times by a customer for touching the lid of his drink.

The incident occurred on Feb. 24, 2024. The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Odair Andrade, who allegedly became furious after the McDonald’s employee touched his drink’s lid.

Following the attack, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) said Andrade punched the employee several times and struck him using a cash register.

A witness at the scene described what happened to Boston 25 News.

“We heard a loud commotion,” Joshua Venter told the outlet. “He was closed fists punching the guy.”

Venter said he couldn’t believe his eyes at what he saw as he passed by the McDonald’s in South Station, Boston.

“We were surprised by what we were seeing,” he said. “I’m going to be very careful coming here.”

Andrade was arrested shortly by law enforcement while the injured employee received treatment at the scene. The 34-year-old now faces several charges, including battery.

Individuals who frequent the South Station area told Boston 25 News that the recent incident comes amid safety concerns by residents.

“I’m always concerned about my safety,” Shabazz Allah said. “There’s a lot of homelessness going on. You got a lot of mental health issues going on with people too.”

The transit hub is patrolled by Transit Police as Boston deals with ongoing issues relating to homelessness and drug addiction.

The New York Post noted that McDonald’s has protocols requiring employees to wear gloves and wash their hands at least hourly if they work in the food preparation area.

Crimes have increased in Boston’s MBTA. Before the McDonald’s incident, a man was arrested in the train hub after he allegedly pushed a 69-year-old woman toward the tracks.

A man successfully prevented the suspect from pushing the woman onto the tracks.

“Right away and I didn’t even think about it. Just grabbed him and got him off of her. And he was just saying something about a mask in America, where do we live,” 33-yar-old Michael Hersey told Transit Police.

The 69-year-old woman was reportedly attacked because of a symbol on the mask she was wearing.
