Heritage Report: Green Agenda Is Leading US Into Economic Trap Set By China

The Biden-Harris administration’s push for green energy is playing right into China’s hands, according to a new Heritage Foundation analysis. The report claims that Democrats’ aggressive transition away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy is making America increasingly dependent on China for the raw materials and components needed to power the green economy.

The report, authored by Diana Furchtgott-Roth and Miles Pollard, outlines how China has strategically positioned itself as the dominant player in the global supply chains for minerals and products critical to green technologies like wind turbines, solar panels, and electric vehicles (EVs). “If America continues to push these green energy mandates, it will cede control of its energy security to China,” the report warns.

Critics of the Biden-Harris administration have long argued that the green energy agenda is undermining America’s energy independence. The Heritage report supports these claims, pointing out that attempts to compete with China’s green industry through subsidies are doomed to fail, given China’s state-backed advantage.

The report calls for repealing green energy subsidies and focusing on expanding America’s domestic mining and fossil fuel production. It also highlights the need for more efficient permitting processes, noting that applications for new mining projects have dropped significantly under the current administration.

In addition to advocating for domestic solutions, the report suggests that the U.S. should strengthen trade relationships with resource-rich countries in Africa and South America while using tariffs to counter China’s unfair trade practices. The analysis concludes that continuing down the current path will lead to higher energy costs, fewer jobs, and greater economic vulnerability to China.
