Gabbard Shuts Down Access To Classified Intel For 51 Former Officials

The Trump administration has taken decisive action against former intelligence officials who promoted false claims about Hunter Biden’s laptop, with Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announcing Monday that their security clearances have been revoked.

The 51 former officials had signed a letter ahead of the 2020 election stating that Hunter Biden’s laptop bore the hallmarks of Russian disinformation — despite later admissions that they had no proof of such claims. High-profile figures affected by the decision include former CIA Directors John Brennan and Mike Hayden, ex-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former National Security Advisor John Bolton.

Gabbard confirmed that additional clearances were stripped from former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. She also stated that former President Joe Biden would no longer have access to the President’s Daily Brief.

The move follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on his first day back in office. The directive required an assessment of whether intelligence officials had inappropriately influenced domestic elections and recommended disciplinary measures. The revocation of clearances is one of the first steps in holding those involved accountable.

Some of the former officials have since tried to backtrack on their statements. Clapper claimed that their letter had been “distorted,” while former CIA officer Douglas Wise admitted that he and others were aware the laptop’s contents were likely genuine but still signed the letter suggesting otherwise.

Gabbard has wasted little time in overhauling the intelligence community. Last month, she revoked the security clearances of over 100 individuals and terminated their employment after discovering they had been using an internal NSA chat system to discuss explicit and unrelated topics.
