Elon Musk Schools Joe Biden On Border Control

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk took President Joe Biden to task Friday in a post on X, formerly Twitter, reminding the president he does not need a bipartisan border bill in Congress to stem the record levels of illegal immigration from and via Mexico — all the president needs is an executive order.

In response to a post by President Biden touting a bipartisan Senate border bill, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO and owner of X, wrote, “No laws need to be passed. All that is needed is an executive order to require proof before granting an asylum hearing. That is how it used to be.”

President Biden’s post said, “For everyone who is demanding tougher border control, this is the way to do it.” The post included a screenshot of a press release that stated, “I instructed my team to begin negotiations with a bipartisan group of Senators to seriously, and finally, address the border crisis. For weeks now that’s what they’ve done.”

“What’s been negotiated would — if passed into law — be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we’ve ever had in our country,” the press release claimed.

As the crisis at the border boils over into an ongoing emergency and conflagration of illegal border crossing — edging up to new record daily highs with each passing week — Joe Biden has begun to take seriously the threat it poses to his reelection in November. Stopping illegal immigration with a border wall is former President Donald Trump’s signature issue.

Biden blamed Congress on Saturday for taking too long to get a border bill across his desk. He said he would “shut down” the border “right now” if Congress sends him a done deal: “A bipartisan bill would be good for America and help fix our broken immigration system and allow speedy access for those who deserve to be here, and Congress needs to get it done.”

“It’ll also give me as president, the emergency authority to shut down the border until it could get back under control. If that bill were the law today, I’d shut down the border right now and fix it quickly,” Biden said.
