Elon Musk has ramped up his security measures after being labeled “Public Enemy No. 2” by German media outlet Der Spiegel. Musk, who has been an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump, blamed mainstream media for inciting threats against both him and Trump. He accused the media of encouraging assassination attempts by portraying them as dangerous figures in today’s political climate.
During a town hall event in Pittsburgh, Musk addressed the heightened political tension leading up to the 2024 election. He referenced the Der Spiegel cover story that painted both him and Trump as enemies of democracy, warning that this portrayal could inspire violence. “With their relentless hit pieces, legacy mainstream media are actively encouraging the assassination of @realDonaldTrump and now me,” Musk said on X.
Musk, who has supported Trump for months and pledged significant financial backing for pro-Trump causes, also discussed his decision to enhance personal security. “I’m definitely upgrading my security. Guess I better cancel that open-car parade,” he joked, referencing the assassination of President Kennedy. Despite the risks, Musk reaffirmed his commitment to defending free speech and ensuring fair elections.
Musk expressed his concern about the growing hatred from left-leaning media, calling the level of vitriol “next level.” He contrasted this with what he views as more tolerance from the right, stating that while right-wing individuals may disagree with the left, they do not harbor the same level of animosity.
