Controversy At Graduation As Students Turn Their Backs On Biden

The graduation ceremony at Morehouse College, one of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), took a controversial turn as some graduates expressed their dissent by turning their backs on President Joe Biden during his commencement address.

According to reports, at least seven graduates and a faculty member visibly protested by facing away from Biden as he delivered his speech. Additionally, a group of students reportedly walked out of the ceremony when Biden was being conferred an honorary degree.

The protest seemed to be in response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, with some graduates wearing Palestinian flags or keffiyeh scarves, following the trend of the ongoing pro-Palestine — and even pro-Hamas — protests that have been erupting at woke universities across the country.

Valedictorian DeAngelo Jeremiah Fletcher addressed the issue in his speech, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, drawing applause from Biden, declaring that it was his “stance as a Morehouse man — nay, as a human being — to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”

During his address, Biden acknowledged the protesters, stating, “I support peaceful, non-violent protest. Your voices should be heard. And I promise you, I hear them.” He also reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to address the humanitarian crisis.

“It’s a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. That’s why I’ve called for an immediate ceasefire, to stop the fighting. Bring the hostages home,” he added.
