Comey Accused Of Secretly Instructing FBI To Target Trump Campaign With ‘Honeypots’

A whistleblower has revealed that former FBI Director James Comey allegedly ordered a secret FBI operation to target then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. According to the disclosure submitted to the House Judiciary Committee, the operation used undercover agents called “honeypots” to infiltrate Trump’s team without an official case file or legal basis.

The whistleblower claims Comey directed two FBI agents to embed themselves within Trump’s campaign, where they traveled with his team, interacting with high-level campaign staff. The investigation reportedly had no specific crime in focus and was aimed solely at uncovering damaging information on Trump. The whistleblower stated that Comey managed the operation with the help of FBI Deputy Director Dave Bowdich and Washington Assistant Director Paul Abbate.

Among the reported targets of the investigation was Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, who later faced legal consequences for making false statements to the FBI. Papadopoulos was subsequently pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2020. The operation allegedly ended when a news outlet acquired a photo of one of the agents, with the FBI’s press office persuading the publication not to release it to avoid potential harm.

Following the operation’s conclusion, some agents were reassigned, with one reportedly moving to the CIA to avoid testifying about the case. Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker described the alleged probe as a serious overreach, noting that such an operation would usually require approval from the attorney general.

The House Judiciary Committee has announced plans to review the whistleblower’s claims to determine if Comey’s alleged actions broke standard protocol.
