Christians In Syria Face Genocide As Islamist Government Expands Control

Mass executions of Christians and Alawites are sweeping through Syria under the rule of its new Islamist regime. Over the past few days alone, at least 1,800 people have been murdered, with entire communities being targeted by government-backed forces.

The fall of Bashar al-Assad, who had used the Syrian Army to defend Christians from attacks, in December left a power vacuum that was quickly filled by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Al Qaeda-linked group. Ahmed al-Sharaa was installed as interim president in late January, promising stability. Instead, his government has unleashed a wave of violence, particularly against Christians who once found protection under Assad’s rule.

Reports from inside Syria describe armed militants storming villages, executing priests and burning churches to the ground. Christian families are being forced from their homes, many disappearing without a trace. Some survivors have fled into remote areas, but those left behind face relentless persecution.

Despite the scale of the killings, world leaders have remained largely silent. The United Nations condemned the violence but avoided addressing the religious aspect of the massacres. Meanwhile, Western media coverage has been minimal, choosing to focus on political tensions rather than the genocide unfolding in Syria.

Israel, Syria’s well-armed neighbor, has so far refused to act. Though Israeli leaders have spoken about the instability in Syria, no military intervention or aid has been offered to the Christian communities now at risk of complete destruction.

As the killings continue, those trapped under the new regime are left to fend for themselves. With no outside help and no guarantee of safety, Syria’s Christian population faces an uncertain and deadly future.
