Brenna Bird Pushes Sen. Ernst To Support Hegseth Amid Scrutiny

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has publicly urged Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) to back Pete Hegseth’s nomination as Secretary of Defense, arguing that his confirmation is essential for advancing President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda.

Bird made her case in a Breitbart op-ed, warning against what she described as attempts by Washington insiders to derail Trump’s nominees. “We must not let Washington kill nominations before the Constitutional confirmation process even begins,” Bird wrote.

Sen. Ernst, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, expressed caution in a Fox News interview, saying, “We had a very frank and productive discussion, and I know that we will continue to have conversations in the upcoming months.” Ernst emphasized the importance of thoroughly vetting Hegseth’s nomination, citing unresolved allegations.

Bird’s op-ed highlighted Trump’s support in Iowa and the importance of respecting the will of the voters. “When voters select a president, they are selecting that president’s vision for a cabinet that will enact his agenda,” she wrote.

Ernst’s role on the Armed Services Committee gives her significant influence over Hegseth’s confirmation. The committee’s evaluation will determine whether the nomination advances to the full Senate for a vote.

As Trump’s team prepares to take office, Bird’s call for unity underscores the urgency of confirming cabinet members to ensure the administration can deliver on its promises to voters.
