The American labor market is facing a troubling trend, as full-time jobs are rapidly disappearing and being replaced by part-time positions. In August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 438,000 full-time jobs were lost, while part-time work increased by 527,000. This shift has raised concerns about the quality of employment under the Biden-Harris administration.
Part-time jobs often come with lower pay and fewer benefits, leaving many American workers financially vulnerable. President Donald Trump has been vocal in his criticism of the administration’s handling of the economy, stating that part-time jobs are no substitute for the full-time employment that many families need to stay afloat.
E.J. Antoni, a research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, explained that employers tend to cut full-time positions when the economy is weak or heading into a recession. “This shift to part-time work is a sign that businesses are losing confidence in the economy,” Antoni said, warning that this could be a signal of deeper economic trouble ahead.
The Biden administration has touted its success in creating 16 million jobs since taking office, but critics argue that job quality is more important than job quantity. With inflation continuing to rise, and full-time work becoming harder to find, many Americans are struggling to make ends meet.
